Gear: My drum shells are all hand made by Joe MacSweeney of Eames, and all have Tama lugs and hoops. I usually use the following sizes: 6”, 8”, 10”, 12”, 13”, 16”, 18” toms, 14” snare, and 24” bass drum. The cymbals are almost all A.Zildjian’s. I use a 22” ping ride, 2 pairs of 13” new beat hats, two 16” medium thin crashes (one mounted upside down), one 18” medium thin crash, an 18” pang (also mounted upside down), a 6” splash, an 8” splash (yes, this too is mounted upside down), and a 10” splash. I also have an 8” custom bell which I made from a cracked 16” medium thin and three Wuhan Chinese cymbals (hey, would you believe that these are mounted upside down?). The sizes are 14”, 16” and 20”. For electronics I use a Roland SPD-8 with two additional Roland pads mounted to my right. The samples are triggered with the SPD-8 from a Roland SP-303. I also trigger via the SPD-8 with a Shark electronic foot pedal. Everything is held on a Gibraltar rack system with Tama hardware. Oh… there are some jingly chimes too.

Stevesborough - May 26, 2006:

This is a new area that I decided to add to sort of brain dump about life, living, etc… Why the change, you ask? Why not! As I reflectively drift through my, “ahem”, MID-thirties, I find myself discussing things with myself. It’s pretty sad really. I invite you to come, watch and pity me =)

Why do we often look back in life and long for the things we pushed away? More specifically, why do we rush to get old? I think back to when I was nine years old. I belonged to a local boys club with my brother Mick and cousin, Chris, both 3 years older than me. The club rules were you could only go into the weight room if you were twelve. I never really cared about lifting, but the prospect of having that freedom to go where I wanted gnawed at my immature gut. Would I EVER become twelve? Low and behold, one day I was twelve, then twenty two, then thirty two and here I am. Three weeks ago my not so old / young body was trying to heft something into the garage and I pulled my right bicep; the careless result of riding a desk for work and not being a resilient twenty year old, anymore. Imagine that, a limitation at my age. Of course my nine year old self would never understand the prospect of the REAL limitations of day to day life responsibilities, health issues, money, etc… Ironically, I can’t even find the time to get into the weight room now. Such is life!
